Workload Tuning for MS SQL Server

This session introduces a new paradigm for tuning database applications. Unlike standard methods that focus on tuning of individual SQL queries, workload tuning allows the DBA to optimize an entire workload automatically. The workload may consist of hundreds-of-thousands, or even millions, of queries. The results of such an optimization include specific recommendations for enhancing the indexing scheme, rewrites of problematicSQL syntax, tweaks to the schema and much more.

Ami Levin, DBSophic's CTO and a well-known SQL Server MVP, will describe the workload tuning paradigm in detail. Ami will demonstrate this new optimization method via a live demonstration of Qure Optimizer, DBSophic's workload tuning solution. The demonstration will showcase actual optimization results from a major 24x7 OLTP production system. This case study will include a technical discussion of selected recommendations (eg, indexes added, procedures rewritten). Benchmarks of the performance benefits achieved by the tuning recommendations will also be presented.
